The joint security force has revealed that the Kenyan security Tuesday night handed over 36 Ugandans  who were arrested for conducting illegal political activities in areas of Kisumu.

The group, which identifies as the FDC-Katonga faction, claims they had gone on leadership training in Kisumu for a week.

At 4:30pm, a group of 36 Ugandans who were handed over by the Kenyan security to Uganda for illegally organising political activities were assembled at Kololo independence grounds ready to be handed over to police.

Paul Mugisha, an external security officer, says the Kenyan government in liaison with Uganda found out that the said group had no contact person in Kenya which made the Kenyan authorities suspicious.

“Kenyan security alerted the Ugandan government about suspicious activities by Ugandans,” Mugisha said.

“Kenyan security said they were operating in a group and didn’t have a contact person and a coordinator so they detected a security threat.

“These people say they belong to Katonga of FDC but thank God in liaison with the Kenya security, this group was brought back yesterday night.”

Mr Samuel Makokha Mugeni, the group coordinator, says the aim was to improve FDC Katonga’s leadership through skilling more members to get more skills and was initially meant to happen in December before the delegates conference of FDC Katonga.

“To improve the leadership of FDC Katonga and close the leadership gap, we sieved a number of people to get more skills in leadership and mobilise others,” Mr Mugeni said.

“We used our official documents to access Kenya, but as we approached Ukweli pastoral centre in Kisumu county for prayers before our training meeting, unidentified people surrounded us and they were covered.”

Mr Mugeni said in coordination with their top leadership, the group required a better environment than Uganda to train young members leadership skills which explains why they chose Ukweli pastoral leadership centre in Kisumu county.

He, however, claims that upon preparing to meet for training, they were ambushed by unidentified people.

The group, which includes three women, will be handed over to police for further interrogation.
