The National Fellowship of Born Again Pentecostal Churches of Uganda (NFBPC) has strongly condemned the recent attack on Pastor Aloysius Bugingo, the senior pastor of House of Prayer Ministries.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when Bugingo and his associate, Richard Muhumuza, were targeted by unidentified assailants.
Tragically, Muhumuza lost his life instantly, succumbing to the violent attack.
Fortunately, Pastor Bugingo managed to escape and was quickly transported to Mulago Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
In a statement, Dr. Moses Odongo, the General Overseer/Archbishop of the NFBPC, expressed deep concern over the attack on Pastor Bugingo.
He conveyed their prayers for his swift recovery and extended condolences to him for the loss of his personal driver.
Dr. Odongo called upon security agencies to intensify their efforts in apprehending the perpetrators responsible for this heinous act.
He urged the authorities to ensure that the assailants face the full force of the law and be brought to justice for their inhumane actions.
The NFBPC has requested a thorough investigation into the assassination attempt to uncover the motive behind it.
Dr. Odongo emphasized the need for public vigilance, highlighting the current threats of urban terrorism.
The motive behind the assassination attempt remains unclear, prompting authorities to launch a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
While Pastor Bugingo is known for his outspoken nature and controversial sermons, it is premature to establish a connection between previous incidents of criticism and threats and the recent attack.
House of Prayer Ministries, where Pastor Bugingo serves as the senior pastor, is a prominent religious institution in Uganda with a large congregation.
The assassination attempt has shocked and deeply concerned Bugingo’s followers and well-wishers, leading many to gather and offer prayers for his swift recovery.
According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the shooting took place at approximately 9 p.m. at the Bawalakata junction along National Housing Road in Namungoona Zone 2, Lubaga Division.
The assailants opened fire on Pastor Bugingo’s vehicle before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
Law enforcement officials are diligently recording statements from eyewitnesses and reviewing CCTV footage as part of their ongoing efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
The body of the deceased has been transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a comprehensive postmortem examination.
Bugingo’s bodyguard, who was killed, was a UPDF officer attached to the Special Forces Command (SFC).
