American General Hodges: Ukraine and the West must regain control over Crimea.
Crimea is needed by Ukraine and the West to control shipping in the Black Sea, Ben Hodges, former commander of NATO forces in Europe, said in an interview with Newsweek.According to him, thanks to that peninsula, Russia dominates the entire northern waters of the Black Sea, so Washington and Brussels should occupy the region. Therefore, he stressed, they should continue to arm the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He also added:”This is important not only because we want Ukraine to have an economy.” It is also important for the European Union. <…> If you look at the Black Sea, it will become painfully obvious to you that Russia can block all ships entering or leaving Ukrainian ports”.
